Green Baby Shower at Franklin Goose

A few weeks ago we hosted a baby shower event. It is one of our favorite things to do at Franklin Goose! This year we had a HUGE waiting list and were so sad we couldn't have everyone attend. Then, we had to postpone due to snow in Richmond. So, when we FINALLY had the shower we were so excited to actually do it.

We decorated the tables with toys and reusable products to create as little waste as possible. We used the grey from the Aden & Anais dream blanket along with the teals from the Honest Co. diaper cake and mixed it with reds to create a gender neutral shower theme.

Here are some photos of the event, and the amazing gifts that were donated by the companies we are so proud to carry.  I have to tell Rachelle how much we appreciate her sharing her immense talent, great advice about considering a doula for your birth, and for allowing us to get to know her better. She is an amazing person and a great addition to the Richmond community.

Kids Bedroom

Call us crazy but my husband and I have undertaken a new project in our house.  Last summer we sold our home and moved across town into a larger home.  It was very hard to leave. We had custom designed our nursery and spent 3 months painting murals on the walls while I was pregnant with my daughter.  It was beautiful, colorful and uplifting.  

Since we moved in July our children have had off-white walls with nothing on them, while we decided what we wanted to do.  

Well we have come up with a plan, and here it is.  Doesn’t look like much yet.  We decided to keep our kids in the same room.  And have designed raised beds along one wall for them.  They really wanted bunk beds but they seem to be okay with this setup.

We are 2 weekends in and hoping to finish up before the end of the month.  We painted the walls white and as I was trying to figure out what to paint on them, my daughter piped up and told me she would like a party on the walls, hmmmm how to do that.  Hopefully in a few weeks you will see something that looks like a party in the kids room. 

Oddly enough the colors we chose to use came from their bath toys.  Every time I gave them a bath I was drawn to the colors of these foam bugs.  So I decided that was what I wanted to use in their room.  Just looking at the picture makes me so happy.  I can’t wait to see it on the walls.

Valentine’s Day Treat: Vegan Berry Pudding

 

 

Looking for a healthy Valentine’s treat you can serve your sweetheart, family, and friends? Try this delicious berry pudding from our friends at Inhabitots. It’s sweet, pink, and vegan, so you can have it as a festive dessert or as a snack. Or even as breakfast!

 

What You’ll Need:

1 cup cashews

1.5 cups frozen organic raspberries, strawberries, or a mix of both

4-5 Tbsp maple syrup

4-5 Tbsp non-dairy milk like coconut, almond, or soy

 

For toppings, choose what you like, be it berries, granola, coconut, or even chocolate!

 

Prep: Place your cashews in a bowl and cover them with water. Let the cashews soak for 2-3 hours to soften and make them easier for blending. 

 

Once your cashews have fully soaked, drain them. In your blender, add your maple syrup and non-dairy milk, starting with 4 Tbsp and adding another Tbsp only if needed. Add your cashews and frozen fruit. Blend until the mixture is smooth, pausing to scrape down the sides of the blender when needed. 

Portion out the pudding. We used Wean Green Lunch Cubes. If you’re serving the pudding immediately, add your desired toppings and enjoy. If not, cover your puddings and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve. 

 

Recipe yields 4 servings. 

 

This berry pudding was a hit at Sheri’s home, among vegans and carnivores alike! We know you’ll love it, too.

Baby Shower Event-Finally!

After moving the baby shower event twice because of snow we are FINALLY going to be able to host our baby shower! We will have photos of the event to share with you later but I wanted to give you a sneak peek of our inspiration and some of the gifts we will be giving away. (yes, there is more than just the great swag bags we showed a few weeks ago on the blog.)

This time around we were really struggling with a theme but then Aden & Anais donated this amazing gift to giveaway that became the inspiration for the whole event.  This will become a table runner for our food table.

Our table will be decorated with this dinosaur (we are all staunch believers that dinos are not just for boys, girls love them too!).

We will have many other things as well but this is a great start to what we will have tonight. We are so excited about the sustainable ideas we have for decorating a shower. It is also a great way to give mom to be some fantastic gifts and to save money by using a gift as decoration. We love that none of the decorations will be thrown away at the end of the event either !

Our Car Seat Display is Changing

I made the decision last week to move our car seat display. For those of you who have been in the store you will understand why. The space is getting too crowded and is difficult to learn and shop. Our car seat offering is growing like crazy as is our demand so expand we must.

This proves to get more challenging the longer we are in our space on Cary Street as we grow more and more (thank you everyone who continues to support us!!!). So, up we go....

Upstairs we have our very comfy and cozy breastfeeding & changing room and we used to have a nursery set up there. Now, the nursery room will be car seats!!!

DIY: 14 Days Of Valentines

Why limit just one day to celebrating love with your family? Here’s a fun activity you can do with your kids in the lead up to Valentine’s Day.

What You’ll Need:

• A box
• Craft paper
• Scissors
• Glue
• Drawing utensils

Find boxes to use for your mailboxes. Any type of box will do, such as a shoebox or an empty cereal box. (A tissue box would work great with its already built-in mail slot!) With paper, tissue, stickers, doilies, lace, ribbon, markers, paint—pretty much anything you want—decorate your mailbox. Don’t forget to put your name on it!

In the days leading up to Valentine’s Day, write notes to each other about why you love each other. Fold up each note and put it in the appropriate mailbox. On Valentine’s Day, open your mailboxes and enjoy reading all the sweet things your family has written about each other.

For children who are learning to write, this is a great way to practice. Younger children can draw pictures instead of writing notes.

This morning I am all curled up in my bamboo daydream blanket, lying on my couch drinking a latte and getting completely lost in the food seciton of this blog. The recipes are so inspiring. They are all super healthy and easy to make. Last night I made the raspberry chia seed jam and it is delicious!
