One of the biggest physical and financial purchases for parents is the stroller. It can also be one of the most overwhelming. Should you buy one you can use while jogging? Do you need one that can go over rough roads? Do people still use those old-fashion baby carriages that you’ve seen in movies? And what exactly does “umbrella stroller” mean?
A stroller should support you and your baby’s lifestyle. So let’s discuss your needs first:
- How many children will eventually use this stroller? And how many children will need to use it at the same time?
- Will you need a stroller that can accommodate a car seat?
- Are you an urban dweller or a suburbinite? Do you need a stroller that can fit in your car with all of your kids, their friends, and your groceries, plus those golf clubs your husband always leaves in the trunk? Or do you need a stroller you can take easily onto a bus or subway?
- Where do you plan on storing your stroller in your house?
- And, very important, can you lift your stroller?
Seat Carrier Frame
A seat-carrier frame is an inexpensive and lightweight
choice that your child’s infant car seat can fit in. It folds easily and is
quite compact. Plus, you’re less likely to wake your child as you transport him/her
from the car to the frame.
Once your child outgrows her infant car seat – usually by the time he's/she’s 1 year old – the seat-carrier frame can no longer be used, and you will need to purchase a new stroller.

Carrycot
A carrycot is a separate bassinet that is attached to a stroller
frame, giving you an old-fashioned carriage-look for your stroller. It is meant
for infants only because it allows a small baby to lie flat and sleep as much
as she needs.
You can also purchase a stroller that accommodates a carrycot, thus having a carriage for your child in her first few months and a stroller for when she is older.

Umbrella Stroller
An umbrella stroller is very lightweight and generally easy to fold and compact. They make perfect travel
strollers because they’re so easy to pack up.
Most umbrella strollers are recommended for children 3 months and older. All of the umbrella strollers carried by Franklin Goose can recline to 3 positions. However, the Chicco Liteway Plus stroller can fully recline, making it safe for newborns.
The Chicco Liteway Plus can also accommodate car seats, as can the Babyhome Emotion.

Travel System Stroller
*Features of Franklin Goose strollers, but not universal of all strollers.
A travel system stroller includes an infant car seat, car seat base, and a stroller. With the car seat, you can move your sleeping child from the car to the stroller without disturbing her. When your baby can sit up on her own, you’ll no longer need to use the car seat. Just adjust the stroller’s backrest to a comfortable upright position for her, and you’re all set.
Jogging Stroller
*Some double and side-by-side strollers are also jogging strollers.
A jogging stroller has 3 wheels, the front of which is either fixed (non-swiveling) or lockable (swivels but can be locked into place). The tires are air-filled and the handlebar is designed so that you can push it ahead and your feet have more space to run. Jogging strollers generally have a longer life because they can hold heavier children.

Side-By-Side Stroller
If you have twins or need to transport more than one child,
side-by-side strollers work well. They are wide, but ours at Franklin Goose can
lie flat or hold a car seat or carrycot, so your children can sit however is
most comfortable for them.

Tandem Stroller
If the side-by-side stroller is too wide for you, a tandem
stroller might work better. Tandem strollers have two seats that sit one behind
the other. The Phil & Teds Navigator is a great all-terrain stroller that
can accommodate a carrycot, car seat, or lie flat. And it can hold a second
seat - the Phil & Teds Doubles Kit allows for two children in the
Navigator, making it a great tandem stroller.
