Hello Readers! Well, today is the birthday of Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, (known to us commoners as Kate Middleton). If you’re wondering why I care, well, to be honest, I’m a bit of an Anglophile. Love Shakespeare, the Beatles, Doctor Who, the royal family, and fish and chips.
Birthday girl Kate turns 31 on January 9.
Even if you’re not royally infatuated with all things British like me, you’re still probably aware that Kate and Prince William are expecting. (If you’re not, congratulations on finding a way to rid your life of tabloid news.) And as it often happens with high-profile celebrities and public figures, Kate has launched the world into a baby frenzy. Pregnancy and all that goes with it are suddenly in the spotlight, and let’s be honest, we’re all fascinated to see what life is like for a pregnant princess.
Today Kate turns 31, and there’s speculation as to what her husband’s present will be. (Rumor has it he’s purchased her a country house. I know, right? Wow William, way to make all the other husbands look cheap.) Not only that, but Kate’s friend, the stylish and still-so-posh Victoria Beckham has recently said she would like to design Kate’s maternity wardrobe.
Now, it would be nice if we could all have such friends (and husbands), but don’t despair, ladies – you don’t have to lose any style just because you’re going to be a mom. (Also, there’s no need to wear “mom jeans” either. Isn’t life grand in 2013?) There are lots of great companies out there with stylish and comfortable clothes to make your maternity wardrobe beautiful, not just functional.
We’re casting the spotlight on one of our favorites, Hip To Be Round. Our neighbor here in Carytown, Hip To Be Round has super stylish choices that even Kate Middleton would love to own. In addition to being beautiful, the clothes are postpartum and nursing friendly, which means you can wear them for longer than just 9 months. That should make your wallets happy, as well as all those men who are now desperately researching how much a house in the English countryside is going to cost them.
Here are some of my personal favorite picks from Hip to Be Round:
We’ll be keeping an eye on the progress of this royal pregnancy. Kate, have a happy birthday and welcome to motherhood!
And to the rest of you, if you have any tips or suggestion for other great places for maternity clothes, leave us a comment! We’d love to hear from you what your wearing or have worn.
And men, if you can’t afford a country estate, that’s okay. We’ll just watch Downton Abbey.

eMommie has a great website, plus occasional warehouse sales in Richmond.
